Ignore the bad reviews here.
This is a superior everyday Indian restaurant.
* * *
The number one source of conflict here seems to be the service.
I am going to bet the fights are about the old guy, who might be the owner.
He is omnipresent, a constant presence, and he does not wait to get things done.
He is charming and has a mind of his own.
I think he's charismatic and great.
He is what gives the Himalaya character.

The number two source of conflict seems to be the buffet.
Some Yelpers claim that older food, notably pastries, end up on the buffet.
I personally always prefer a fresh cooked meal to buffet offerings which by definition have been sitting out all day.
So I ordered fresh from the kitchen.
My experience was markedly better than that of other reviewers.
So this is one thing you may want to keep in mind.
* * *
The menu itself is standard Anglo-Indian curry house.
There is little about the menu itself that would make the Himalaya stand-out.
However, in my humble opinion,
(Not that my opinion is ever humble),
I think the execution is vastly superior at least to the Indian restaurants I get back home.
Saag dishes are really spinach-y.
In other places, I get washed out spinach.
The naan with paneer is one of the most interesting naan versions I have had.
Himalaya (and I expect other places in Vancouver as well) spike up the paneer with lots of chili powder.
You get a firey naan rather than a dull-comforting naan.
There are a lot of things in life that are better firey rather than dull and comforting.
My salty lassi was also spiced and superior.
I did not try any of the desserts that were laid out in a lavish display such as you would find in an Indian bakery.
But I sure wanted to have all of them.
If this place were in my hometown, I would eat here a lot.
Of course Vancouver people live in restaurant paradise,
So they may be used to all of this.
For me, it was a treat. -

Another Indian buffet in lower main land
huge place, portion of the restaurant is a grocery and a place where you can get your indian goodies and pacify your sweet tooth with indian sweets. It looks like to me that this is a family owned business
Restaurant is open everyday from 10 am - 9pm,they accept reservation and take-out but I heard they do not deliver.
Accept cash/debit/credit apple pay is not available.
Casual ambiance, noise level is average, they have big TV and wifi free parking is by the rear and street parking.
Good for family and group and with kids and a heaven for people like me who love and enjoys Indian cuisines.
The restaurant serves alcoholic beverages it is actually a full bar place.
Service is homey the waiter keeps going around asking patrons if they need more water and keep on getting used plates and utensils.
Huge buffet area, warm and delish foods, they serves vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes i love the roti that I dipped with the creamy chicken curry and butter chicken, unlimited supply of dishes with peas and masala, and other indian dishes, no tandoori chicken or I just missed it because my favorites were butter and curry chicken.
Money is worth in this place specially if you are an indian foodie guy. good foods, the sweets are bombshell.
My only concern here is the washroom not so clean and needs upgrades
100% ill visit again -

Enjoyed the varieties of vegetable and bean dishes. Many sauces to accompany your dishes. Clean and spacious restaurant. I prefer bolder flavors. They also sell sweets.

I came from Detroit, Mi and had heard good things about this restaurant from reading reviews. So went there. Was highly disappointed by the food. Didn't taste good and on scale of 1 to 10, would give it 2 or 3. Also liked like the buffet was set up in the morning and by the time I had food for dinner, they had not changed anything.

Been coming here since I was a child with my family that grew up in India. This place- its veg foods and sweets- always make me happy :) Today's chai tea had no flavor, but otherwise perfect for a quick, cheap, filling, delicious punjabi meal.
